Remember Jet Airways? Maybe you don't — but once upon a time, it was one of India's most trusted and beloved airlines.
The Rise of Jet Airways
Launched in 1993, Jet Airways quickly became synonymous with premium yet affordable air travel for discerning passengers across India. For years, it stood as a symbol of quality, reliability, and comfort — a brand that redefined both domestic and international flying for millions of Indians.
At its peak, the airline connected over 65 destinations across India and around the world, including Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and North America. With major hubs in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru, Jet Airways operated through key international gateways, including Amsterdam, Paris, London, and Abu Dhabi.

With a fleet of 124 aircraft, including both narrow-body and wide-body jets, Jet Airways once operated nearly 1,000 routes, offering travelers a seamless blend of comfort, efficiency, and world-class service.
My First Flight Experience with Jet Airways
In April 2015, I had the opportunity to fly from Cochin International Airport (COK) to Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR) and back on one of Jet Airways' ATR 72–500 aircraft. It was my first time flying — and an experience that would stay with me forever.

The journey began with a mix of nervousness and excitement. As I walked through the airport terminal, watching planes take off and land through the glass panels, everything felt surreal. When boarding began, stepping onto the tarmac and seeing the aircraft up close was nothing short of magical.
The ATR 72–500, a twin-engine turboprop aircraft, looked compact yet charming. As I settled into my seat and fastened my seatbelt, the engines began to hum. Within seconds, we were racing down the runway — and then, for the very first time, I felt the thrilling sensation of takeoff. The view of the world shrinking beneath me was something I'll never forget.
A Journey to Remember
Although the flight was short, it was unforgettable. Cruising above the clouds under the night sky, I looked down to see city lights shimmering like rivers of molten gold. The ride was smooth and peaceful, despite the aircraft's modest size and a ticket price of under ₹2,000.
The cabin crew's warm hospitality and complimentary snacks added a thoughtful touch to the journey. When I returned from Bengaluru the next day, I carried home not just travel memories — but a new sense of confidence and curiosity. That first flight sparked a lifelong love for aviation and travel.
The Fall and Hope for Revival
Sadly, in April 2019, Jet Airways suspended operations due to financial difficulties. The airline entered a corporate insolvency resolution process under India's bankruptcy laws, marking the end of an era in Indian aviation.
In recent years, reports suggested that Jet Airways might resume operations by the end of 2024, potentially making it the first Indian airline to be revived after ceasing operations. However, as of now, there's no confirmed update on the relaunch.
Looking Back
For me, Jet Airways was more than just an airline — it was the beginning of my aviation journey. That first flight in 2015 remains one of my most cherished travel memories.
I truly hope to fly with Jet Airways again someday. Until then, I'll always be grateful for the wonderful experience it gave me — a flight that changed how I see the world.
